Credo

I updated my home page immediately following Rosh Hashana, September 2026 (Hebrew: Tishrei 5787), where Rosh Hashana marks the Jewish New Year that is a solemn day of prayer, introspection, and atonement that is quite the opposite of the secular New Year that is typically marked by a day of frivolity. Over the holiday I read a short book The Eternal Conversation by former UK chief rabbi Lord Rabbi Jonathan Sacks (ZTz"L 1948-2020) who was recognized by many, and not only by Jews, as being an eminent moral philosopher. Near the beginning of his book, in "Letter 4" on "The Pursuit of Happiness" p. 58, he wrote that it would be considered madness to deliver a eulogy (Hebrew: Hesped) where one stated that the deceased "Mr. X, what a man he was. He drove a Lamborghini, dressed in Armani, wore a Patek-Philippe, had a villa in Cap Ferrat, and a pied-a-terre in Mayfair. This was a giant. We shall not see his like again."

Therefore I felt compelled to write a short paragraph about what I feel is very important to me, and hopefully what others recognize about me:

  1. I am a proud observant God-fearing Jew.

  2. The best life decision that I made was coming on Aliyah (English: immigrating to Eretz Israel, the Land of Israel) as a young man, with a young wife, and the older two of my then infant children. The decision was beneficial both spiritually and professionally. I see that Hashem (English: the term, i.e. "the Name", that God-fearing Jews use to refer to the ineffable name of God) watches over for the Land, where the eyes of Hashem are always upon it, from the beginning of the year until the end of the year (Deut. 11:12).

  3. During the 15 years that I served in an IDF reserve combat unit in a command position, I grew both spiritually and personally. And I must add, quite to the contrary of the Hareidi (i.e. the so-called "ultra orthodox") view, that joining the IDF enhances one's spiritual growth.

  4. In a number of instances I had the opportunity to follow the fundamental "marching orders" that Hashem gave to our forefather Abraham (Hebrew: Avraham Avinu), namely to execute righteousness and justice (Gen. 18:19), and to teach my children accordingly.

Footnotes

  1. Secure Photos: My purpose is to protect my internet privacy by inserting "speed bumps" in front of applications that attempt to automatically harvest my photo and email address, while not making it difficult for a human reader of my site to access this data; unlike many others whose goal is to refuse to reveal their on line email address at all. My techniques are "good enough" to prevent a "typical" automated mass harvesting application from accessing this data. The above techniques camouflage my image from comparison with CCTV surveillance photos yet cannot stop my young grandchildren from easily identifying me. The camouflage is generally more effective when defending against searches through a mass database of photos as opposed to comparing against a known reference photo.
    • Similarly any human can easily read my distorted email watermark although admittedly there are some AI tools that can decipher it too. And admittedly there are applications that can automatically extract my email address directly from the QR code mailto halftone URL, but they also could have more easily extracted it by simply parsing the top line of my home page which uses the trivial textual description of my email address using the well-known "AT" and "DOT" notation hack.
    • Additionally I have protected my email address against an automated HTML parse by inserting an embedded "invisible" CSS bogus email address which would likely trip up a typical automated harvester, e.g. <span style="display:none">bozo@the-clown.com</span>. There are many other CSS hacks that could be used.
    • I camouflaged my photo using the FOSS GIMP blurring filters (i.e. "oilify" and "clothify") while overlaying the result with my "rippled" email address as a large visible watermark which I have strategically placed to obscure my nose tip and my nostrils which are important feature metrics. The camouflaged photo provides a "kind of" two factor authentication (2FA) because if any rogue site were to post it then any skeptic could easily question it by sending me an email.
    • There are commercial de-identification (D-ID) applications which obscure photos with nearly unobservable distortion where the obscured photo would intentionally fail to pass high quality photo ID techniques such as a passport scanner.
    • An interesting new FOSS D-ID technique (patentable?) would be to inject a barely visible Eurion currency watermark into a photograph, because an Eurion currency watermark would render such a photograph uncopyable by all commercial imaging software for fear that currency is being counterfeit.

  2. Tekoa: Contrary to most of the world's claims referring to Tekoa as an "internationally unrecognized illegal settlement", Tekoa was originally established by the Kingdom of Israel before the time of King David c. 1000 BCE. The Tanakh (English: Hebrew Bible) states that (1) King David fled to Tekoa when King Saul was pursuing him, (2) he was convinced by the "wise woman" of Tekoa to pardon his son Avshalom, and (3) the prophet Amos was from Tekoa.↩︎

  3. According to the UN Partition Plan for Palestine of 1947, the Judea and Samaria regions (a.k.a. the "West Bank") were awarded to the modern State of Israel but were "illegally occupied" in 1948 by the State of Jordan, with critical military assistance from the British Army led by Glubb "Pasha". At that time only two UN states recognized Jordanian sovereignty, namely Britain and Pakistan. In 1967 the State of Israel liberated the regions as a result of their miraculous Six Day War victory. Perversely almost no country in the world has recognized Israeli sovereignty since. Even today after 60 years, the British lead the Western world's campaign against recognizing Israel's Six Day War victory, e.g. against recognition of Israel sovereignty over the Ma'ale Adumim region around the E1 corridor. In 1917 following Britain's victory over Turkey in WWI they announced the Balfour Declaration in which they declared their intention to establish a homeland for the Jewish People in Palestine in the spirit of the prophet Jeremiah's prophecy (chapter 31) which states that "in the end of days" the Jews will return to Eretz Yisrael (English: the Land of Israel). As a result, in 1919 the League of Nations (i.e. the precursor to the modern United Nations) awarded Britain the Mandate for Palestine. Yet in 1939 as the Nazi Holocaust (Sho'a) came into "full swing", Britain made a volte face and issued the White Paper to strictly limit Jewish immigration to Palestine which effectively condemned at least hundreds of thousands of Jews to death. It should be wrily noted that as of 2026, the once "Great" Britain still administers 14 illegal colonies across the world (not including Scotland!), thousands of kilometers away from the British Isles.↩︎

  4. Hebrew University (HUJI): HUJI is internationally rated as one of the top 100 universities in the world. By 2024 many Jewish students, many of whom had previously barely identified with Judaism or the Jewish community, found university environments in the Western world literally unviable for Jews, and instead have chosen to attend universities in Israel, which by the way are a fraction of the cost of comparable US and Canadian universities. Since October 7 2023 when the Gazan Muslim terrorists massacred 250 Jews, and imprisoned and tortured another 1200 for up to three years in subterranean tunnels, there was a concerted outbreak of world-wide antisemitism in nearly all Western countries in support of the Islamic barbarians, reminiscent of the Nazi Germany pogroms against the Jews in the latter half of the 1930's for which the Western world remained obsequiously silent; prior to the Nazi's genocidal annihilation of 6 million Jews from 1940-45 in the Holocaust (Sho'ah), for which the Western world again remained silent while it happened. Since 2023 the hubs of the antisemitism were in universities especially among the elite ones, while the civil legal authorities originally refrained from disturbing "academic freedom of expression". In the US the heads of the top universites refused to condemn the antisemitic violence. The Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, infamously refused to condemn the Gaza massacre in which over 100 UNWRA employees participated, and where UN sites were used as terrorist bunkers and arms caches, although the West "righteously" howled when Israel attacked these UN sites in self-defense (in spite of uniquely minimal collateral damage while the Islamic terrorists used theologically mandated "human shields") and declared UNWRA as persona non grata.↩︎

  5. Hadassah Hospital: Hadassah is internationally rated as one of the top 150 hospitals in the world. Arab Muslim militias massacred a convoy of about 80 of Hadassah's medical staff in April 1948. The convoy was flagged by the ICRC. The British Mandate authorities were informed of the details of the convoy, but they turned a blind eye to the massacre, and prevented Jewish militias from rescuing the staff. A British soldier informed the Arabs of the timing of the convoy. During the 1940's (i.e. during WWII and afterwards) the British Army medical corps used Hadassah for seminars on tropical diseases. According to the UN Partition Plan for Palestine of 1947, Mount Scopus (Hebrew: Har Hatzofim) in "East Jerusalem" where the hospital was originally located, was awarded to the modern State of Israel. As a result of the massacre, the Hadassah campus on Mount Scopus was forced to close. In 1961 a new campus was opened in the West Jerusalem suburb of Ein Kerem. In 1967, as a result of the Six Day War victory, the Mount Scopus campus was reopened and rebuilding began.↩︎

  7. Mitzpeh Yericho: Contrary to most of the world's claims referring to it as an "internationally unrecognized illegal settlement", the Tanakh (English: Hebrew Bible) states that the city of Jericho was Joshua's first conquest (from the heathen Canaanite idolators and practictioners of human sacrifice) when the Jews first entered Eretz Yisrael (English: Land of Israel) after the exodus from Egypt c. 1353 BCE.↩︎
